2023-24 NHL Rulebook

by Matthew Smith

Okay, it’s not the most thrilling sign-post along the road to NHL Opening Night.

That accepted, the publication of the NHL Rulebook for the coming season is still one of the formalities that needs to be completed by the league before we can get the pre-season games underway.

Unlike the recent changes we saw at the start of the football (soccer) season, there isn’t much in the way of differences to get your head around. Most of the wording changes are just to clarify a few points, such as Coach challenges when the puck hits the spectator netting, rather than anything that you will notice when watching a game.

The main revisions to the document itself are in changing all references of “linesman” to “linesperson” and changing all references of fouls to “infractions”.

The “political correctness gone mad” crowd will be all over those when the season begins, no doubt.
