Home of Hockey now EveryPlay

by Matthew Smith

UPDATE: Every Play updated their territorial terms on 12 September 2024. This has meant that many markets that previously could use their service to watch the Swedish Hockey League – such as in the UK – now cannot. Every Play were very responsive in apologising and immediately refunding my Swedish Hockey subscription payment (bearing in mind the terms had changed since I bought it); however, I would have preferred to not have the money and to be able to watch the games! I’ve left the rest of the article as originally written. Check their website for the latest subscription details.

Last year, Home of Hockey TV launched and made Swedish and Finnish hockey games available to a wider audience.

The subscription streaming service meant that customers living in markets without an existing TV provider for these games – essentially countries outside of the core European markets (Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Czechia, Germany etc) – could watch them for a very reasonable fee.

The service has now rebranded, moving under the overall banner of Everyplay.live alongside handball, ski and snowboard, and some football. It’s a minor change in many respects, simply bringing together sports that were already being offered on separate sites by the same company; however there are a few things to note from a hockey fan perspective.

Subscription options

Previously you could opt for a Swedish hockey subscription, a Finnish hockey subscription, or an overall hockey subscription that also included the Champions Hockey League.

The overall subscription seemingly has now been dropped.

If you live in a market that allows you to watch all three (including Ireland, France, Italy and Spain among others) then you may find you have to make a choice between a couple of them or spend more money than previously to get all three.

From a UK perspective, the Champions Hockey League subscription wasn’t available (as Premier Sports carries some of the games on TV here, and the rest are then available for free on YouTube), so it’s not really a factor for us.

Pricing details

Based on the details published at time of writing, the subscriptions cost the following:

  • Swedish Hockey (SHL, SDHL, HAS): 12 Euros per month, or 60 Euros for the year.
  • Finnish Hockey (Liiga): 8 Euros per month, or 50 Euros for the year.
  • Champions Hockey League: 10 Euros per month, 45 Euros for the year.

The subscriptions are very fairly priced, especially the Swedish package. You do have to bear in mind that there is no commentary on most of the games, just the crowd noise from the arena; however, with apologies to the many excellent broadcasters out there, I really enjoy watching the games that way.

Check the website for the latest pricing details and also the territory details to be sure on what is available to you based on the country you live in.

There is now an app

The only minor frustration I had last season was the lack of a dedicated app. Chrome casting from a web browser was a bit hit-and-miss for me, so I often resorted to using a laptop and a HDMI cable to get the games through my TV when needed.

That has been solved now with an EveryPlay app available on iOS and Android devices. I’ve not been able to test it yet, but it’s good that the option is there at the very least.
