Liam Öhgren to debut with Minnesota Wild

by Matthew Smith

Following on from my post last week, one of the four young Swedes is not only getting a taste of the AHL this April, but the NHL too.

It’s been announced today that Liam Öhgren has been recalled by the Minnesota Wild with the intention of him making his NHL debut in the next few days.

Öhgren recently completed his season in the SHL with Färjestad. Whilst he would have been disappointed that the team’s play-off run was cut short at the Quarter-Final stage, the 20-year-old from Stockholm has received a wonderful present to cheer him up.

Öhgren has made three appearances for the Minnesota’s AHL team, Iowa Wild, and will now achieve a dream of many young hockey players by becoming an NHL player.

Minnesota lost on Tuesday 5-2 to the Colorado Avalanche and in doing so were officially eliminated from play-off contention. Their next game comes on Friday when they travel to Vegas to take on the Golden Knights.
